Devotional: Walking by Faith

"Come," He  said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:29

Recently my 12 year old son and I went deep sea fishing. Our boat rested 14 miles out in the Atlantic Ocean and we let our lines down. As the waves went back and forth, I sat there thinking about Peter and Jesus. As I watched the waves, I wondered what it would have been like to be called to step-off the boat to walk to Jesus on the waves, would I have the faith and courage to do so, if so then what? Would I start to doubt like Peter?

What in your life has Jesus called you to do?  Have you started to doubt that call? If so, where has that left you? We know it left Peter sinking and crying out for Jesus to save him. We know that one incident opened their eyes to who Jesus was, “Truly you are the Son of God.”  Matthew 14:22

I want to encourage you that if you are being called by Jesus to “Come.” Then go...have courage and faith in Jesus to show you the way. Just like Jesus was there to save Peter, Jesus will be there for you to. If you have already answered that call to “Come” and you are now starting to doubt your situation, refresh yourself in the faith of Jesus Christ. Please remember, when Jesus calls you to do something, He will be there for you…it takes your faith and courage to listen.

Let's Reflect: Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.  After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.  Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.  When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”  “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.  Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:22-33

PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, I want to have the faith in you that you call me to have. Please fill me with courage and faith to take action and accomplish whatever it is that you call me to do. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
Be Blessed…Be Bold in the name of Jesus!
